MOZAMBIQUE

The Republic of Mozambique is the world’s 35th largest country of over 800,000 km2 (the size of Turkey) and has a population of over 22,000,000.

It is bordered by the Indian Ocean to the east, Tanzania to the north, Malawi and Zambia to the north-west, Zimbabwe to the west, and Swaziland and South Africa to the south. The official language is still Portuguese who first explored it in 1498. It is the only nation to join the Commonwealth which was never part of the British Empire.

Many children in Mozambique are required to work on their families subsistence farms rather than attend primary school.
