Sudan
The Republic of Sudan is the largest country in Africa and 10th largest in the world. It is bordered by the Red Sea to the north-east, and nine other countries: Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Chad, D R Congo, Central African Republic, Chad, and Libya. Devastated by war famine and floods the region of Darfur has become synonymous with human misery and deprivation, and accusations of ‘crimes against humanity’. Although rich in mineral resources, agriculture, Sudan’s biggest contributor to employment and GDP suffers from desertification and deforestation ensuring that much of the population remain below the poverty line.
